Industrial Chic??? and the search for the perfect white

Could it be reading all the magazines, books and decorative post lately have me  confused?  I mean I am in a "what are we stage" with my house and decorating style.........

I was flea market/farmhouse chic before it was chic, I was on a garage sale budget for years between old finds and hand me downs ......my first new piece of furniture was well when I was around thirty..........after marrying hubby I was Victorian with a touch of shabby and Coastal Chic......

Then I moved to a ranchhouse and decorated wtih a more rustic darker Texas/mediterranean style.

Now  Farmhouse, shabby and Coastal Chic, are again calling my name this time with a little french touch.........

So lately I see this and other industrial pieces that are really cool and how about that piece that was on Cash for Cari  last night....... the industrial trolley/skid that had wheels she said redone turned into a coffee table would be worth at least one thousand...............(HGTV Mondays, 9:00)
This just caught my eye this morning......and well it is closer to two thousand, Sundance sorry not in my range......
Surely this can be made.............it is just plain old pieces of plywood, chicken whire and some wheels........

My husband has things that look like this in the garage that he uses to wench things together............so why are items in the garage all of a sudden appealing to me, there is an industrial looking table out there he picked up for free, it was from the 50's or 60's, and  last year I wanted him to put to the curb and he refused and well this year it is in danger of being inside the house and the most prized piece, with a burlap skirt and a few glass bottles on top.......... even Rachel Ashwell is getting in on the industrial chic movement.  Her latest Bed corner group on her site are on crates, simple crates with wheels.........As a tool manufacturer my husband gets rid of the many crates and skids that our product comes on and in..........

And this piece from PB is killing me.......I actually went and visited it in person, I just had to go say hello, and it is even lovlier in person.....

I was in utter amazement........I mean I think I actually talked to this piece of furniture and said Dang you are beautiful............

Way Cool!

Beautiful!........................................................

It is absolutely killing me

Look at the versatillity and personality of this new piece...........

Hmmmmmm until I figure out Who I am and just what are we (me and house)........or how to piece all the things I love together in a way that the styles will flow........and also there is the what will we sell to get some of these things........or how will we find an old piece that has the same look and feel for alot less......I better tear down the part of the sunroom that we are now having to reboard as there was termite damage, It has been professionally treated but they sure did a number.....I thought it had just gotten wet as this is by the windows but after pulling up a little wood......we discovered we had little friends eating away. so I am going in.........DIY on the Teardown, DIY + Wonderful talented Hubby who can do most anything on the rewall.....Pics of the tearout later this week.

And I need to have these saltillo tiles stripped and repolished......I think or maybe just cleaned and left
alone for the more rugged look.......

And I am still in search of the perfect color of white, so the walls that are not being torn have different whites on them so I can see them in different lighting before I decide. I have ruled out Ballet White and Cloud white.....I think.........

If anyone has excellent suggestions for a white that is not dingy.......or too bright that would compliment the saltillo flooring and be cozy but yet bright...........I would love Any white suggestions!!

  1. you know, if you get the measurements you could make those things or have them cut at lowes/home depot and then put them together yourself.

my ex used to do things like that all the time when I found something I liked he would just make it for me (of course you'd have to change the wheels but that's not really a big deal)

thanks for sharing it you've given me some wonderful ideas

  3. Hi Sherry! I saw you over at Tuesdays Treasures and I am in the same boat you are! We are painting out family room white as well and there are about 4 different shades of white on my walls to see how they look and I can't decide!! I can't believe how many shades of white there are!
Good luck to you and if I find one I will let you know!! I do have white in my kitchen that is called Crisp Linen White from Glidden I think and I really like that one so that may be my fall back! :)
