I have always loved Vintage prom dresses and adore when I see pictures my fellow bloggers have of them on their mannequins or draped across antique dressers. I have been on the hunt for one for some time
This is my favorite picture of my mother as it was her senior prom 1959, she was just starting her adulthood and I have always thought the picture to be beautiful, so this picture inspired me to look for a blue prom dress one that is my size one that I could wear for a tea party if I wanted play dress up with my daughter, or put my pink boots under and get my picture taken..............

My Biggest Inspiration my mom! |
|
So I looked for prom dresses on etsy and ebay |
|
Although I found many 50's era dresses in blue |
|
Many were well "out of my price range" from 250-350.....sorry no wanna do |
|
This one was particularly adorable
Just a few more.........
But I found one my size!!! For 29.99!!!!! and she may not be the prettiest but she is perfect and the one for me!
My Vintage prom gown inspired by mom and the beginning of my collection!
Also inspired by mom's blues, and she gave me the vintage lace months ago today I am making a aqua linen with cream linen pockets apron to wear
Sometime in the next post or so I will show a picture of the new items in my room and my inspiration wall!

ReplyDeleteYour prom dress is beautiful. My mom's prom dress, from 1960, was made by my aunt and then worn by me to my prom in 1980. Maybe I need to dig it out and photograph it. ♥O
ReplyDeleteGosh those are stunning! Can't help but say, "They just don't make 'em like that anymore!" -- such a shame -- they were so feminine! Thanks for posting them!

I had a similar dress that my great grandmother made for my mother for a piano recital that I used to dress up in when I was a kid. It was so much fun. I hope it is still at my grandmother's house and has not gotten thrown away. It had a tafetta slip in blue and the dress was all ruffles.

I passed a beauty up years ago and am kicking myself!!

Those prom dresses are gorgeous! Don't you wish they were more affordable though? I know I would love to collect more myself. My mother sent over a bag of my old prom dresses about a year ago and it was so much fun to go through them. Nothing quite as stunning as yours however, I went to HS in the 70's. Your mother's picture is beautiful! Marcia
ReplyDeleteoh, they are all sooooo gorgoues!!!!
ReplyDeleteThose are gorgeous prom dresses. They look so much softer and 'floaty' than today's dresses. It would be interesting to see what the guys were wearing to proms back then.

Hello! I found you through Coastal Charm. These dresses are so dreamy! When I was in college, I found a beautiful blue chiffon gown from the 60s at an antique store. It fit me perfectly, so I wore it to our sorority formal!

ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous weekend!!
I am thrilled to learn that people are collecting old prom dresses to display! I must be the age of your mom, as I graduated in 1960. My 91 year old mom has three of my prom dresses in a trunk, and I plan on bringing them "home". In my attic in an old cedar chest, I have four prom dresses my own daughter wore. I made two of her dresses myself as she designed them.....even have matching ties and cumberbunds that her dates wore. I had only saved them in case I ever get great granddaughters, and hopefully, I will. Playing dress-up in an old prom dress would be the ultimate experience for a little girl! Your mother was so very beautiful and the gorgeous blue dress was perfect for her.
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry, the dresses you featured are so pretty, I love that you were inspired by your mom! Thanks for stopping by my blog to say hi, Christie
